Huawei bags optical network gear order from BSNL
Chinese telecom equipment company Huawei Technologies has supplied optical networking gear to state-run BSNL to augment its bandwidth.
Huawei has provided STM-64 (10Gbps) next generation product and solution to BSNL. The company emerged as the first supplier of such products after undergoing lab and environmental testing by BSNL, a Huawei statement said.
The size of the deal was not disclosed by the company.
BSNL owns one of the largest optical fiber networks in the world spanning over 640,000 km across the length and breadth of the country. The company is looking at augmenting its bandwidth by inducting STM-64 SDH technology on large scale to meet the growing requirement of traffic by exploiting the existing optical fiber resource.
Huawei has become the first recipient of such approval certificate for STM-64 SDH technology in India. This is also the first commercial deployment of STM64 SDH technology in BSNL network by any vendor, it said.
Huawei Telecommunications India Director Yu Yongbin said the product is one of the most innovative and advanced in the industry as it provides legacy TDM services and all types of IP and data services over an Automatically Switched Optical Network based multi-service platform.
