Hollywood set to storm mobile gaming space
After setting new box office records at Indian multiplexes, Hollywood is now all set to seize a share of the country’s mobile gaming industry.
The mobile gaming industry in India is currently worth around Rs 90 crore per annum. It’s casual games, followed by Bollywood and Hollywood, which have the largest share in the pie.
Paramount Digital Entertainment is part of global entertainment company, Paramount Pictures Corporation, which has produced blockbusters such as Titanic, Braveheart, Forrest Gump and the hugely successful Mission Impossible series. The agreement will allow Hungama Mobile to provide services such as mobile games besides themed logos, polyphonic ring-tones, animated wallpaper screens, video clips, and applications, among others to be based upon Paramount’s catalogue.
The two companies will also work together to execute synergy promotions in the new media space for previous catalogue titles as well as for up coming releases. “This is the first time that Hollywood content of such diversity, quality and size will be made available to the Indian consumers. We are looking forward to offer innovative and popular digital entertainment to Indian users,” Paramount Digital Entertainment Asia-Pacific vice-president (interactive and mobile entertainment) Pradeep Mittur told ET.
Hungama Mobile is targeting around 200 million mobile subscribers and is hoping to leverage on it’s experience in Bollywood content development and mobile technologies for the new tie-up. It has in the past developed games around movies such as Don, Krrish and Rajnikant’s Sivaji.
The company will also localise and distribute a wide range of internet-based entertainment for a select mix of Paramount’s library. “We aim to be the pioneers of Hollywood content for the Indian market,” said Hungama Mobile MD & CEO Neeraj Roy.
