GoM on spectrum first meet cancelled last minute

The first meeting of the Group of Ministers on availing additional spectrum for telecom services, scheduled for tomorrow, is understood to have been cancelled.

NEW DELHI: The first meeting of the Group of Ministers on availing additional spectrum for telecom services, scheduled for tomorrow, is understood to have been cancelled.
The GoM was constituted for vacation of spectrum from defence services for allocation to telecom operators 18 months ago but is yet to meet even once.
Sources in the know of development said the meeting may take place in the last week of June.
The meeting was supposed to have discus DoT's demand for immediate release of 42.5 Mhz of radio waves.
Defence forces have reservations in releasing spectrum currently under their disposal as they insist on getting a secured and reliable network first.
The current occupants of the spectrum are defence forces, railways and police.
