I am savvy but not tech-savvy," he says candidly. For a minute you can't believe that his serious job allows him to keep in touch with his humourous side. But it will also take some time for you to believe the fact that he heads one of the most hi-tech sectors of the country and is still not a tech freak. We are talking about Mr Praful Patel, minister of state for Civil Aviation.
He uses two handsets. A Nokia 6110 and a Samsung handset from its slim edition. When asked about the model number, he is unable to recall it though he recently bought it. "Nokia 6110 is the most practical handset that a person can have," he says.
In case you are thinking he must be a gizmo-freak to have two handsets, well let us tell you he is not. He uses only two essential functions of the phone - making and taking calls and messaging via SMS. He doesn't click pictures from the Samsung mobile camera phone.
"Cell phone is an essential gadget today," he says as a matter of fact. When asked whether he uses an iPod, he laughs and says , "Why does one need an iPod. When one has ears why plug in small microphones into them!" Point taken Mr Patel. So he is not a gizmo freak and not very net savvy either. He receives just 25 e-mails a day, but unlike many people he makes sure to reply to all of them. "Though there are days when my mailbox is flooded," he adds.
He uses in-flight e-mail though only on rare occasions. He says, "In-flight mail is a very practical option available to passengers these days." Gadget wise, probably not a very tech savvy person, but when it comes to his sector one might like to disagree. He is well versed with the technology know how of the aviation sector. He surely knows how to use technology, as and when required.
