Facility to withdraw mobile number portability request on the cards

NEW DELHI: Mobile phone users may soon be able to send a text message and withdraw their request to port or change their operator.

Telcos have initiated talks with Telcordia Technologies and Syniverse Technologies that implement mobile number portability ( MNP) here to set up automated system for consumers who want to withdraw their porting requests. If this facility is implemented, the customer gets a 24-hour window to cancel their porting request and continue with their original operator.

Rajan Mathews, director general at COAI, confirmed that talks were on with Telcordia and Syniverse for an SMSbased system as allow easy access, especially with customers in rural India.
