Etisalat DB gets nod to pay salaries to 600 employees

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday allowed Etisalat DB to draw Rs 9 crore from its accounts to pay salaries to 600 employees.

NEW DELHI/MUMBAI: The Bombay High Court on Wednesday allowed Etisalat DB to draw Rs 9 crore from its accounts to pay salaries to 600 employees. The court is supervising winding-up proceedings of the company, a joint venture between Abu Dhabi's Etisalat and DB Group of India.

Etisalat DB had told its employees early this week that salaries for March would be paid only after securing approval of the court. "The high court has approved the payment of salaries and payments are currently under process," the company said on Wednesday. "All staff will receive their salaries as quickly as possible."

Etisalat DB had last month announced plans to shut shop in India after the Supreme Court cancelled its mobile permits in all 15 circles. The company approached the high court on March 12 for appointment of a liquidator.

Etisalat has initiated legal proceedings against its Indian partner for fraud and misrepresentation.
