The companies have been given two days' time to complete the process so that licenses could be issued followed by allotment of spectrum to all of them.

NEW DELHI: Starting the process to issue new telecom licenses to nine companies which received LoIs last month, Department of Telecom has sought clarifications from them regarding terms and conditions to be eligible for licenses.

According to sources, the clarifications are of general nature, including papers submitted by the companies have not been signed or stamped properly.

The companies have been given two days' time to complete the process so that licenses could be issued followed by allotment of spectrum to all of them.

Asked whether documents like bank guarantees were right, sources said all financial papers were in order.

The nine companies include realty major Unitech Developers, Shyam Telelink, Data Com, Swan Telecom among others. All of them were issued LoIs on January 10 and they had deposited the requisite license fee on the same day to retain seniority to get spectrum first.

Sources said that the government was considering allotment of spectrum to all new applicants in circles where it was readily available. In some circles like Delhi and Mumbai, the spectrum would be given only after its release by the Defence Ministry.
