NEW DELHI: Concerned over the slow progress of Next Generation Networks’ (NGN) adoption by telcos, the Department of Telecom (DoT) has formed a Focus Group to put the transformation on fast track, which will help the operators reduce costs and offer advanced services.

DoT officials had a meeting with various stakeholders on August 29 for creating such a group. The group under the Telecom Engineering Centre of DoT will also look at approval of funds and expenditure for speedy implementation of NGN in the country.

NGN would enable operators to provide multimedia, data and voice services on the same platform.

Currently, operators use different platforms to offer these services which is costly, time-consuming and inefficient in service delivery.
