DoT allocates spectrum to new telcos in Kerala

Government has allocated start-up spectrum to new telecom players including Shyam Telelink, Unitech, Datacom and others in Kerala circle.


NEW DELHI: Government has allocated start-up spectrum to new telecom players including Shyam Telelink, Unitech, Datacom and others in Kerala circle.

While Shyam has been given CDMA spectrum, others have been allocated GSM radio frequency, sources said.

According to sources, Communication and IT Minister A Raja has cleared the file for allocating start-up 2.5 MHz spectrum for Shyam Telelink and 4.4 MHz GSM radio waves for others.

Tata Teleservices has also got GSM spectrum in Kerala under the dual technology clause.

Earlier, Shyam was allocated spectrum for 13 circles namely Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh (East), Uttar Pradesh (West), Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Haryana, North-East, Assam, Jammu & Kashmir and Maharashtra.

In the GSM space, new players have already been given spectrum in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
