DoCoMo cancels contract with HEL
The Japanese mobile co revoked a license it gave HEL last year to provide its i-mode Internet access service.
TOKYO: NTT DoCoMo, Japan's biggest mobile-phone company, revoked a license it gave Hutchison Essar Ltd last year to provide its i-mode Internet access service, after Vodafone Group agreed to buy a controlling stake in the Indian operator.
Vodafone agreed in February to acquire a 67 per cent stake in Hutchison Essar, India's fourth-largest mobile-phone carrier, from Hutchison Telecommunications International Ltd in Hong Kong.
Vodafone received approval from India's Foreign Investment Promotion Board for the 11.1 billion dollar purchase in April. "The business environment of Hutchison Essar has changed, which makes it difficult" for both companies to provide i-mode, DoCoMo said on Monday.
