Department of Telecommunications extends time for study on spectrum demand for Pvt 5G

In a memorandum issued on Thursday, DoT said it will reopen the module for carrying out the demand studies from September 30 to October 14.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has extended the timeline for the study on spectrum demand in 5G private networks, a contentious issue between telecom operators and technology companies.

In a memorandum issued on Thursday, DoT said it will reopen the module for carrying out the demand studies from September 30 to October 14.

"The competent authority has decided to reopen the module on the Saral Sanchar portal for carrying out the demand studies from 30.09.2022 to 14.10.2022," the memo said.

DoT had called for a study on demand for 5G spectrum for captive private networks in August, after a clash between telecom operators and technology companies over direct allocation of spectrum to enterprises to set up private networks.

However, DoT clarified that participation in this exercise will not entitle enterprises any claim on spectrum assignment.
