Department of Telecom all set to auction 2G spectrum this fiscal

NEW DELHI: In a big boost to Arun Jaitley's fiscal math, the Department of Telecom is all set to auction 2G spectrum this fiscal itself. Sources say, telecom department is working on auctioning all 2G bands- 800 MHz 900 MHz and 1800MHz.

The round, which is crucial for both the industry and the Government, is slated for February 2015.

According to a DoT memo, the timeline that the Government is working towards is issue of the bid document on the 1st of December and holding the spectrum sale in February 2015. This will be round four of 2G auctions, with third round being held earlier this year.

Interestingly, the Government is keen to auction CDMA spectrum along with GSM band.
