NEW DELHI: Favouring the removal of mobile phone towers from residential areas due to emission of radiation, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday said it was the responsibility of the municipality to remove them.

On the sidelines of a function here, Dikshit said, "it is the responsibility of the municipal corporation to remove the structures from the locality inhabited by people."

"We are aware that mobile phone towers are not safe for health. They are threat to the environment. We have already raised our concern over them. However, it is MCD's job to remove them," Dikshit said.

The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) last week issued notices to the mobile phone towers firms asking them to specify what steps they have taken to ensure the safety of the people living in the locality where towers are installed.
