Data services revenues in the country may rise 400 pc by 2020: Huawei

Revenue from data services in India may rise by more than 400 pc to $19.3 bn by 2020, Huawei said in a report on Wednesday.

NEW DELHI: Revenue from non-voice and data services in India is expected to increase more than 400 per cent to $19.3 billion by 2020, from $3.9 billion at present, but voice revenues will decline during the same period to $31.5 billion from $34.7 billion currently, Huawei said in a report on Wednesday.

The government's move to create a countrywide broadband network that offers affordable broadband to all would propel the total number of internet users to 563 million by 2020, of which number of wireless data users will be 450 million while the remaining will be fixedline users. Wireless data users will be 28 per cent of India's total wireless subscriber base, the report said.

Huawei India and Ernst & Young's report - Connected possibilities; Innovation, Integration and Inclusiveness - highlighted that telecom services contributes $35-38 billion annually to the Indian economy and added that the sector accounted for 8.1 per cent of the cumulative FDI equity inflow over the last 10 years. The report also said that 3G and broadband wireless access will push the demand for data, driving incremental revenues in the telecom sector where additional revenues from voice have become stagnant.
