BSNL to snap satellite links in parts of Tripura

Due to non-availability of spectrum in INSAT-3C, BSNL has decided to snap satellite links in some parts of Tripura from tomorrow which might affect disaster management during natural calamity, official sources said here on Thursday.


AGARTALA: Due to non-availability of spectrum in INSAT-3C, BSNL has decided to snap satellite links in some parts of Tripura from tomorrow which might affect disaster management during natural calamity, official sources said here on Thursday.

The decision was taken by the corporate office of the BSNL in Delhi and chief general manager of eastern zone was asked to take necessary steps to snap the satellite comunication, the sources said.

The joint forum of BSNL Executive and Non-executive unions and associations has urged BSNL authorities not to snap the satellite communication because of its utility in case of natural calamity like earthquake.

Tirthankar Chowdhury, convenor of the forum, today said they have informed the Chief Secretary Sashi Prakash about the decision and urged him to take necessary action.

He said, the corporate office of BSNL has decided to snap satellite communication in Khowai sub-division of West Tripura district, Kaalpur sub-division in Dhalai district and Belonia sub-division in South Tripura district.

However, telecommunication system in the state will not be affected due to the snapping of the satellite communications, he added.
