BSNL ready to ring in free insurance plan for subscribers

BSNL has finalised plans to provide free non-life insurance cover to all its customers.

NEW DELHI: BSNL has finalised plans to provide free non-life insurance cover to all its customers. BSNL plans to provide a cover of about of Rs 50,000 to each of its subscribers in case they were to suffer any mishap or accident.

The PSU is likely to first provide this facility to its landline subscribers and in later will extend it to its mobile subscriber too. In the next phase, the operator is mulling the possibility of a full-fledged foray into life insurance sector in partnership with an insurance player.

The PSU is confident that free insurance cover, where it will bear the premium, in addition to stopping the surrender of landlines, will also be a major boost to expand its cellular subscriber base. The scheme is set to be unveiled by telecom minister A Raja soon. In fact, it was Mr Raja’s idea that BSNL offer non-life insurance cover to all its subscribers
