BSNL plans massive expansion in North East

State-run BSNL has plans for a rapid expansion of its telecom network and connectivity of mobile services in the NE-I Circle by way of providing more than 2 lakh lines by September this year.

SHILLONG: State-run BSNL has plans for a rapid expansion of its telecom network and connectivity of mobile services in the NE-I Circle by way of providing more than 2 lakh lines by September this year.

According to BSNL CMD Kuldip Goel more employment opportunities for the local youths would be opened through this expansion plan.

"About 500 more landline connections would be made by 2010 and there would be increase in broadbrand connections from 2 million to 5 million," Goel said.

He also said arrangements have been made with the Powergrid to prevent cable network disruptions.

The CMD also informed that 3G Spectrum services would be introduced in the region soon.
