BSNL bid for Millicom Sri Lanka rejected

Millicom has rejected a bid by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd for its Sri Lankan assets, ET Now reported on Thursday, citing the chairman of the telecoms firm.

NEW DELHI: Millicom has rejected a bid by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd for its Sri Lankan assets, ET Now reported on Thursday, citing the chairman of the telecoms firm.

A source with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters the bid was rejected because of the low price offered by the Indian state-run firm. The bid had been announced on Wednesday.

"Yes, at the moment it has been rejected (because of the) least attractive price," said the source, who declined to be identified.

"But there is a chance that they may come back if other bids do not materialise."

BSNL chairman Kuldeep Goyal could not be reached immediately for comment.

The UAE's Emirates Telecommunications Corp (Etisalat) said on Monday it had bid for the Sri Lankan assets.
