Bharti to outsource more work to IBM

NEW DELHI: Bharti Airtel is likely to enhance its $750m telecom outsourcing deal with IBM by an additional $100m. In ‘04, Bharti had entered into a 10-year deal outsourcing deal with IBM worth $750m.

But with its network increasing at a scorching pace, on account of the rapid subscriber addition, sources said the company was likely to enhance this deal, industry sources said.

The sources added the logic behind enhancing the deal was to ensure predictable IT spend, optimised use of technology resources and improved cash flow. When contacted, executives from both companies refused to comment.

Bharti and IBM are also jointly working on the Rs 240-crore TAXNET e-governance project that will connect 745 income tax offices in 510 cities through optical fibre network.
