Bharti Airtel to launch IPTV service in next two months
State-run telecom majors MTNL and BSNL has already launched IPTV service in select cities including Delhi, Mumbai and Pune across the country. Other telecom company Reliance is also planning to offer IPTV services.
"We are waiting for regulatory approvals... as soon as we get the approvals, we will roll out our IPTV services in the next two months," Bharti Airtel General Manager -- IPTV Puneet Garg told agencies.
After receiving feedback from these cities, we would launch the service across the country.
IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) delivers digital television service through Internet Protocol over a network infrastructure by a broadband connection. It is often provided with Video on Demand service and may be bundled with Internet services such as VoIP.
He said we conducted trials for IPTV last year and are now ready to launch it commercially. It has also tied-up with content providers for the roll-out, he said.
While declining to reveal the investment figures for the IPTV project, he said, "all the infrastructure and investment for launching the service has been made."
