AUSPI asks for levying extra spectrum fee on GSM operators
CDMA operators association AUSPI asked the govt to levy additional spectrum fee on existing GSM operators till the excess spectrum is returned by them.
"Department of Telecom should consider levying additional spectrum fee until the excess spectrum is returned by the existing GSM operators. This would generate additional revenues and create a level playing field," AUSPI said in a statement.
The CDMA lobby said that COAI is trying to perpetuate monopoly and is unfairly putting pressure on DoT to accept the spectrum allocation norms that will allow a couple of GSM operators to hoard the radio frequency beyond the contracted quantum and prevent competition.
COAI has readily accepted the government's decision to go with TRAI's norms as this would help them to continue hoard the excess spectrum.
It said the acceptance of TRAI norms by the government is arbitrary and the decision seems to have been taken under pressure from the GSM lobby.
