Airtel expects to restore services by tomorrow

Customers of Bharti Airtel in the western part of Maharashtra faced partial service outage for the second day today.

MUMBAI: Customers of Bharti Airtel in the western part of Maharashtra faced partial service outage for the second day today.

Yesterday, a fire had broken out at the company's central POP (point of presence) location at Malad in Mumbai which impacted its voice, SMS and BlackBerry services.

"Some customers may be facing intermittent network congestion on some legs during the network stabilisation process. We continue to work on our Enterprise Services delivery which will start normalising tomorrow," Bharti Airtel spokeperson said in a statement.

"The facility that was impacted in yesterday's fire had some of our critical installations (such as roaming links, MPLS POPs, IPLC links, VSAT links and internet gateways) which are vital for running voice and data services," the spokesperson said.

He added that the situation required their reconstruction in alternate facilities as well as rerouting of traffic, which despite redundancies (back-up) and expertise available, are time consuming processes.
