Airtel launches Tamil voice portal

Leading telecom service provider, Airtel, has announced the launch of 747, a Tamil voice portal.


CHENNAI: Leading telecom service provider, Airtel, has announced the launch of 747, a Tamil voice portal.

The portal has been developed in association with IMI mobile, an end-to-end enabler of mobile value added services.

The portal, whose content has been developed by well-known Tamil TV and film personality Yuhi Sethu, has a host of interesting features.

"While we are a national brand, we recognised the need to provide local connect with Tamil Nadu and develop regional content in our services, based on customer feed-back," Mahesh Thampi, Chief Operating Officer, Airtel, told reporters last night, during the launch.

This portal service would cost users Rs 6 per minute, he added.

Suresh Jayaraju, General Manager, Marketing and Operations, IMI mobile, said, "While mobile services have penetrated well into the country, value-added services are yet to catch up. We need to develop services that will not have language barriers."

The portal allows users to download ringtones, send greeting cards, provides tips for women. It also has jokes and a dialogue section of renowned Tamil comedians and an exclusive business talk section, apart from a youth zone.

South Indian actor Srikanth, who has lent his voice to this portal among other film personalities, launched the portal.
