Country's largest mobile operator Bharti Airtel on Friday formed a joint venture with public sector fertiliser maker IFFCO to provide telecom products and services to farmers in rural areas.

NEW DELHI: Country's largest mobile operator Bharti Airtel on Friday formed a joint venture with public sector fertiliser maker IFFCO to provide telecom products and services to farmers in rural areas.

Bharti Airtel has created a platform to offer free daily voice updates on mandi prices, farming techniques, weather forecast and fertiliser availability.

Bharti Group Chairman Sunil Mittal said Airtel will become the top rural telecom brand in 2-3 years and the joint venture will harness the power of telecom to add value to the farm sector.
