Aircel joins hands with Helpage to offer cell phones to aged

Telecom service provider, Aircel has joined hands with Delhi-based NGO, Helpage India to provide mobile phones to the elderly in old-age homes across the country.

MUMBAI: Telecom service provider, Aircel has joined hands with Delhi-based NGO, Helpage India to provide mobile phones to the elderly in old-age homes across the country.

Under the tie-up, Aircel will collect old and spare mobiles from people and distribute it among the elders in the old age homes with a free talk time for a period of one year, a press release said here.

Aircel will set up drop boxes in big shopping malls, clubs, news agencies and Aircel retail outlets, where old or spare mobile phones can be dropped.

People can SMS 'Donate Phone' to 5800000 or register in the Aircel website www.aircel.com and the company will make arrangements to collect the old phones from doorstep, Aircel said.

"We at Aircel are extremely sensitive to Corporate Social Responsibility and this festive season we encourage all to come forward and contribute by donating their old/spare mobile phones for the elderly in Old Age Homes," Aircel COO Gurdeep Singh, said in the release.
