Aircel contracts Sybase 365 to offer ISMS

Aircel Ltd has selected Sybase 365, a subsidiary of the US-based Sybase Inc, to offer International Short Message Service (ISMS) to over four million subscribers in Tamil Nadu.

CHENNAI: Aircel Ltd has selected Sybase 365, a subsidiary of the US-based Sybase Inc, to offer International Short Message Service (ISMS) to over four million subscribers in Tamil Nadu.
Sybase 365 provides solutions for delivery and settlement of messaging interoperability and management and distribution of mobile content, a company statement said.
Aircel subscribers will now be able to communicate via SMS with business contacts, family and friends in South Asia and across the world, the statement said.
"Working with Sybase 365 to expand SMS messaging internationally enables us to offer increased value to our customers while driving SMS traffic within Tamil Nadu," said Aircel CEO-South K V P Baskar.
This agreement broadens Sybase 365's global coverage, which spans more than 700 mobile operators reaching more than 1.7 billion mobile subscribers.
With Aircel, Sybase 365 will be able to provide two-way interoperability services to more than 90 per cent or 110 million South Asian mobile subscribers across Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, it said.
"We are pleased to be selected by Aircel to provide its customers with a new international communication opportunity," said Sybase 365 Vice President (Asia) Matthew Talbot.
Aircel Ltd is a subsidiary of Malaysia's Maxis Communications Berhad.
