5G to raise mobile data revenue by 67% till 2026: GlobalData

Since there is uncertainty around consumer adoption of 5G - especially in rural regions - because of increased data charges and smartphone prices, most mobile subscribers will continue using 4G services.

The rollout of 5G mobile broadband in India will drive data revenue by 67% between 2020 and 2026 on the back of a 29% increase in data usage, data and analytics company GlobalData has forecast.

However, since there is uncertainty around consumer adoption of 5G - especially in rural regions - because of increased data charges and smartphone prices, most mobile subscribers will continue using 4G services, it said.

GlobalData estimates 5G services penetration at 27% (around 329 million) by 2026.


The government hopes to see 5G networks covering at least 20 towns and cities by the end of the year.
