4th generation services to begin soon: Qualcomm

Chipmaker Qualcomm expects commercial networks on fourth generation LTE (long term evolution ) platform to begin soon, chairman of the board and chief executive officer Paul E Jacobs said while launching LTE dongles on Tuesday.

NEW DELHI: Chipmaker Qualcomm expects commercial networks on fourth generation LTE (long term evolution ) platform to begin soon, chairman of the board and chief executive officer Paul E Jacobs said while launching LTE dongles on Tuesday.

Having invested over $1 billion in India for acquiring broadband wireless access permits, Qualcomm is readying the ecosystem for offering fourth generation services synonymous with LTE in the country . The chipmaker that acquired BWA licences for Delhi, Mumbai, Haryana and Kerala circles in a government auction last year, has conducted several field trials with operators .

“We’ve already done LTE trails. Commercial networks will be available quite soon,” Jacobs said at a Qualcomm event and added that the company had invested in the “right technology” .
