2G verdict: Presidential Reference seeks clarity on seven issues

NEW DELHI: Presidential Reference has finally been made on the 2G verdict. The reference has sought clarity on seven issues, including status of dual technology spectrum granted by the Department of Telecom in 2007 to cross over telcos. The fate of licences granted from 1994 onwards and the total quantum of spectrum that can be held by telcos are also among the issues for which a reference has been sought.

And even as the Presidential Reference reached the Supreme Court today, the Chief Justice of India Justice S Kapadia has raised serious objections to news analysis that has begun over its fate. Justice Kapadia observed that the fate of Presidential Reference is being discussed even before it has been admitted for the court's consideration.

Justice Kapadia also insisted that reputed newspapers have done analysis of the Presidential Reference which is still not even sub judice. Justice Kapadia referred to analysis that came in a reputed newspaper that slammed the Presidential Reference on 2G stating that it will lead to more uncertainty in the telecom sector.
