2G scam case: No clean chit yet to former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran, CBI tells SC

He complained to the court that there were misreporting by a section of the media about the CBI's status report giving a cleanchit to Maran.

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court stating that it has not given any clean chit to former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran in the 2G spectrum allocation case.

"We have said that the inquiry conducted so far has not revealed element of coercion on the part of Maran (in connection with the sale of Aircel to Malaysia-based Maxis group)," said CBI counsel KK Venugopal to a bench comprising Justice GS Singvi and Justice AK Ganguly on Thursday.

Venugopal said, "the inquiry prima facie revealed that the Malaysian firm was in contact with the minister and his brother prior to the takeover of the company from C Sivasankaran".

He complained to the court that there were misreporting by a section of the media about the CBI's status report giving a cleanchit to Maran in the 2G case.

"If this type of misreporting goes on, we will be compelled to file the status report to the court without reading out any parts of it and simply stating their paragraphs," said Venugopal placing the affidavit on the record of the court.

On September 1, CBI had filed a fresh status report on its investigations into the 2G case.
