CyberIndia: 38 hacking attempts a second in ’18

A large number of attempts to hack accounts based out of India were made in 2018, content delivery network Akamai says in a recent report. The report compiled the number of unsuccessful login attempts for accounts using an email address as a username across several countries, which goes by the name credential stuffing. Credential stuffing is a type of cyberattack where stolen account credentials, consisting of usernames and/or email addresses and passwords, are used to gain unauthorised access to user accounts through large-scale automated login requests directed against a web application.

In terms of the countries to which the attacks were sourced, India ranks fifth with 62.55 attempts traced to the country, indicating that not only are Indian users becoming victims, but a considerable number of Indians are also attempting to hack accounts themselves.
