TripAdvisor announces 'Travellers’ Choice' destinations on the rise awards

NEW DELHI: ' TripAdvisor', a travel planning and booking site, announced the Travellers’ Choice awards for destinations on the rise on Wednesday, with Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, taking the top spot for Asia. While the laid-back local scene of San Jose del Cabo in Mexico earned the ranking of number one in the world, the second and third most popular destinations globally were Whistler in Canada and Jericoacoara in Brazil. Jodhpur was the third most popular destination in Asia.

The awards recognise 43 destinations around the world, selected by an algorithm primarily measured by year-over-year increase in positive TripAdvisor traveller review ratings for accommodations, restaurants and attractions, and increase in booking interest. This is the fifth year of the awards and Travellers’ Choice Destinations on the Rise lists were also released for the US, Europe and South America.

“The destinations on this list are great options for Indian travellers to start thinking about their 2017 holiday plans especially since these names have been gaining popularity among TripAdvisor’s well-travelled community. It’s also exciting to see an Indian city, Jodhpur, making it to the world list this year which only reinstates India’s increasing popularity as a global tourist destination” said Nikhil Ganju, Country Manager, TripAdvisor India.
