Tourists undeterred by terror blasts in Varanasi
High on spirit and undeterred by the acts of terrorism, thousands of foreigners and domestic tourists are thronging the pilgrim city of Varanasi.
The tourists are visiting Ganga ghat here on the occasion of Devdeepawli.
Officials in the tourism department here said that there has been no cancellation of tourists group after the twin blasts. No travel agency has reported about the cancellation of any tourist group, a tourism department official said.
"It would be unfair to say that all the tourists are following the same trend. Few individual tourists have canceled their bookings but the figure is not alarming," said sales manager of a hotel here.
Similar response of tourists was seen during the serial boasts on March 7, 2006.
In 2002, the number of foreign tourists coming to the city was 58,468 which increased to 87,838 in 2003 and again came down to 58,546 the next year.
