Tourism Ministry sanctions Rs 323 cr to develop destinations
Making a record of sorts, the Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned Rs 323 crore to develop various destinations as world class attractions in the current financial year.
In a statement here, the ministry said the sanctioned projects propose to create high class tourism infrastructure and facilities, which will provide unique experience to the visitors.
During the XIth Five Year Plan period a double-pronged strategy of upgrading tourism infrastructure and vigorous marketing under the banner of "Incredible India Campaign" was followed to position India as a global brand, it said.
"The ministry proposes to continue supporting creation of world class infrastructure in the country so that existing tourism products can be further improved and expanded to meet new market requirements and enhance the competitiveness of India as a tourist destination," it said.
The funding will mainly cater to projects concerning heritage destinations and circuits, beach and sea tourism, rural tourism, pilgrimage tourism including development of Buddhist circuit, eco-tourism, projects for North East Region, and Jammu and Kashmir.
