Tamil Nadu expects 25 pc growth in tourist inflow
Tamil Nadu government expects 25 per cent growth in tourist inflow this year against the last year's arrival of 400 lakh tourists.
"We are expecting a growth of 25 per cent this year in respect of tourist arrival in Tamil Nadu with the maximum inflow being anticipated from medical, business and religious tourism sectors," Deputy Director Department of Tourism, S Bakthavatchalam, told reporters here on Tuesday.
Nearly 405 lakh people visited the south Indian state in 2006 out of which, 395 lakh were domestic tourists and remaining foreigners.
From the domestic sector, the state received tourist inflow from Kolkata, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi, Northern UP and Chandigarh, the official informed.
To woo tourists from the northern part of the country, the department has opened a Tourist Information Centre in the city, which is manned by expert staff which would plan packages to suit the needs of tourists.
Meanwhile, the state government is upgrading the infrastructure at favourite tourist destinations in Tamil Nadu, he said.
