Orissa to develop 297 tourist destinations
The Orissa government has identified 297 tourist destinations for development in a phased manner, state Tourism minister Debi Prasad Mishra said here.
The government is also keen to develop circuit and destination tourism and attract domestic and foreign tourists to these neglected areas, he told reporters after inaugurating a restaurant at Pantha Nivas last night.
"Many beautiful and attractive places are untouched so far. Steps have already been initiated to develop Lalitgiri and Ratnagiri to develop a Buddhist tourist circuit," the tourism minister said.
Two places in Sundergarh district - Khandadhar and historic Vedvyas - will be developed to attract tourists, Mishra said.
At present about four lakh tourists visit Vedvyas from different corners of the country every year, he said.
Khandadhar in Sundergarh district and Ushakothi in Sambalpur district, have been identified for development of eco-tourism, he added.
The minister laid the foundation stone for upgradation of accomodation facilities at the Pantha Nivas and also inaugurated a garden restaurant in the premises.
