M S University to be tourist destination soon

VADODARA: Ramesh Goyal, the newly appointed vice-chancellor of M S University of Baroda, wants to develop the university as a tourist destination during its diamond jubilee year celebrations in 2009.

Ramesh Goyal, who took over as vice-chancellor of the university last month, has chalked out an ambitious plan on developing university as a tourist destination in the city.

Baroda is an industrial capital of the Western India where public and private sector giants including Reliance, ONGC, Gujarat Refinery, ONGC, GSFC, GACL, Sun Pharmceutical Industries, Jyoti, Alembic have set up their huge complexes.

Large number of experts from India and abroad visit the city for attending the national and international conference every year. Goyal said M S University houses some of the best heritage sites in Gujarat including the famous arts faculty building which was renovated recently.

He said lord Budha's ashes are kept in the department of archaeology and ancient history, it's only M S University in the country which has reserved these ashes of lord Budha, he added. Rare manuscripts are kept in the oriental institute, he said.

Goyal wants to put up foundation stones in all the historical buildings and monuments which will provide information to visitors about each buildings and their significance. Earstwhile Maharaja of Baroda Sir Sayajirao Gaekwad had established this university in 1949.
