VIJAYAWADA: Well known Kolleru Lake would be turned into an eco-tourism spot with a total outlay of Rs 6.83 crores, according to Information and Tourism Minister A Ramanarayana Reddy.

The minister told reporters that Rs 3.58 crores has already been released for this purpose.

He said 35 budget hotels would be constructed in the state, out of it four budget hotels would be constructed in Krishna district at Vijayawada with hundered beds, Nuzvid with twenty beds, Jaggiahpet with 20 beds and in Machilipatnam with 40 beds.

The minister said Pacific Asian Tourism Association (PATA) conference would be held at Hyderabad in October 2008.

Palace on wheels a special train for tourism would be taken up with a total outlay of Rs 40 crores connecting Tamil Nadu, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh, Reddy said and added orders were placed for 19 bogies for this purpose.

Referring to statements by TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu that free power would be supplied to farmers if TDP was voted to power, the minister said Naidu made the promises only to cheat the people.
