Kerala tourism explores Scandinavian markets
Taking a cue from the increased arrivals of tourists from Scandinavian countries to the state, Kerala tourism has ventured to tap the tourism markets in those countries.
Tourism department officials said tourists to Kerala from Sweden and Denmark had shown a 103% and 46% growth respectively in 2008, and that Finland and Norway also held prospects for the state's tourism sector.
In August, India Tourism had also held a series of 'Incredible India' road shows for the first time in the Scandinavian countries. The Kerala delegation, that comprised 17 trade representatives, was led by state tourism director M Sivasankar.
Officials said, within Scandinavia, Sweden commanded the largest share of outbound travel market in terms of volume and value and that there was special focus to capture this market. They said other markets were also showing good potential and that an objective of the road show was to showcase Kerala to tour operators there, who have not yet migrated to selling Kerala.
