JLR to open new eco tourism units

Jungle Lodges and Resorts Limited (JLR), the eco tourism arm of Karnataka state Tourism Department, is launching five new resorts soon.

BANGALORE: Jungle Lodges and Resorts Limited (JLR), the eco tourism arm of Karnataka state Tourism Department, is launching five new resorts soon.

JLR, which has a chain of 16 nature friendly resorts across the state since its inception in 1980, will soon be unveiling five new projects at Hospet (Daroji Bear Sanctuary), Malaya Marutha (Chikmagalur), Hogenakkal Falls, Ottinane in Udupi and Jog Falls in Shimoga district.

"With our destinations in Bhadra in Chikmagalur, Dubare in Coorg, Bandipur near Mysore and Ganeshgudi near Dandeli gaining popularity with tourists from Bangalore, we will be ramping up our accomodation facilities in these units," JLR's Managing Director N D Tiwari said.

The overall occupany in JLR properties is around 68 per cent throughout the year with picturesque Kabini in Mysore, topping the list at 90 per cent.

"Domestic tourists contribute to 70 per cent of JLR's revenue with those from abroad accounting for only 30 per cent", Tiwari said.

JLR will be commencing online reservation in a fortnight, he said adding it has entered into a tie-up with a UK-based company for Galibore fishing camp in Bangalore Rural District.

JLR has come up with Nature Interpretation and Conservation Education Centres at Kabini, Bhadra and Dandeli where regular programmes are held for schools and other groups.
