India to be showcased at Berlin travel show

On the occasion of World Tourism Day today, the Ministry of Tourism signed an MoU with Messe Berlin, the organisers of ITB where India will be a partner.

NEW DELHI: India will be the focal point at one of the world's largest travel trade show scheduled in Berlin in March, 2007.
On the occasion of World Tourism Day today, the Ministry of Tourism signed an MoU with Messe Berlin, the organisers of ITB where India will be a partner.
"It's a move that reflects the importance of India as a tourist destination," Martin Buch, Director, ITB said.
India will be the focus of about six million people for a week beginning March seven, with the travel and trade show providing it with an ideal platform to showcase the country's tourist destinations.
As a partner, India will have the opportunity to advertise at select spots in and around the fair grounds at Berlin, shuttle buses plying within the fair ground and within restaurants at the venue.
On the occasion, a host of measures to promote tourism within the country were announced.
A decision to develop 15 popular tourist destinations and circuits has been taken to meet the target of ten million tourists by the end of the 11th five year plan, A K Mishra, Secretary, Tourism, said after inagurating an exhibition organised by the Ministry.
Leena Nandan, Director, Ministry of Tourism, said the national capital has been included among the 15 destinations in view of the Commonwealth Games in 2010 as well as World Heritage sites in the country.
