Frost covers tourist destination Munnar in Kerala as temperatures drop below zero

One of the most popular tourist destinations in Kerala, Munnar, witnessed sub-zero temperatures on Wednesday leading to a blanket of frost covering the hill station.

"The temperature recorded this morning was -2 degree Celsius in Nallathanni near Munnar town. We hope the temperature will dip more in the coming days," The News Minute quoted an official from United Planters Association of South India (UPASI), a tea research foundation, as saying.

Local business and hotel owners are enthusiastic about the tourist inflow which has spiked over the last few days.


The News Minute report quoted Munnar Hotel and Restaurant Association (MHRA) President VV George requesting the Kerala government to restore connectivity through better roads to the hill station.


A number of other tourist destinations in South India have witnessed drop in temperatures. Ooty in Tamil Nadu also saw a thin frost cover on Wednesday as temperature dropped to 5 degrees at 8.30 am, the report added.
