Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) and Delhi government arms signed an agreement to develop a four kilometre portion of the Yamuna river for cruise tourism. An official statement said the stretch of river between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur will be focused on eco-friendly cruise operations.

"Electric-solar hybrid boats, designed to carry 20-30 passengers at a time, will be used as river cruise vessels on this stretch," the statement said.

The project is expected to promote waterway based short distance navigation and recreational activities. The section of Yamuna from Jagatpur in Delhi to the confluence of Ganges river at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh was declared as National Waterway-110 in 2014.


This 1089 kilometre stretch passes through Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.
