Foreign countries interested to invest in tourism sector
Australia, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand have expressed their interests for investment in the tourism sector in Tripura, State Tourism Minister Anil Sarkar said here today.
"We have proposed to set up a tourism circuit in the region and introduce low cost helicopter service for smooth connectivity and funds for the promotion of eco-tourism," he said. Sarkar said "We also put forward the demands of holding state-wise tourism festival in the region and declaring Unakoti, a site of 8th century Hindu and Buddhist sculpture, as world heritage site." Briefing out the investment opportunities in the state, Sarkar said "Where the North-East ends, South East Asia starts. There are lots of investment opportunities in the sectors of education, transport, horticulture, IT, IT-enabled services, sericulture and food processing in the region."
Despite rich natural resources and high literacy levels, what we see is a pattern of low capital formation, poor infrastructure, high levels of poverty and unemployment, poor geographical and physical connectivity and lack of exploitation of inherent strength of the region, the minister added.
