NEW DELHI: Nearly half a lakh executives in the national capital region are set to make most of the three-day long weekend by unwinding themselves at tourist destinations like Nainital, Mussoorie, Shimla and Manali, says a study by industry chamber Assocham.

Quoting travel agents and corporate members in the hospitality industry, Assocham said bookings for nearest tourist centres like Mussoorie, Nainital, Ranikhet, Dalhousie, Manali, Shimla, Sariska Tiger Reserve, Ranthambore and Corbett Park have been made for August 15-17 as Independence Day on Friday is followed Raksha Bandhan on Saturday.

Resorts and hotels in religious destinations such as Yamnotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath, Haridwar, Mathura, Amritsar and Ajmer have also been booked, it said.

Thanks to long weekend, tourist arrivals in most north Indian cities are likely to see a 40 per cent increase, the chamber said. To cash in on this, tour operators have launched tempting packages in the ragne of Rs 5,000 to Rs 11,000 for two nights and three days.

Wooing working youth and college students, tour operators have launched special packages of 'adventure tourism' for locations in Uttarakhand.

The operators have received large bookings for places like Bhagirathi, Pindari, Sahastrataal, Gangotri since these places offers events like trekking, water rafting, para-gliding and mountaineering, the chamber said.
