Wal-Mart’s hiring starts at Whirlpool
Head of Wal-Mart’s emerging markets has started handpicking executives from his former company.
Sources said four executives (including a former employee) from the white goods company are joining the worlds largest retailer in the country. The buzz is that more may join and the name of a senior Whirlpool executive is also doing the rounds. This apart, P Murali Krishnan, the foods head of Cash and Carry India-Wal-Marts German rival in the wholesale format-is also slated to come on board.
Wal-Mart is keeping the recruitment process totally under wraps; it has still not announced Raj Jain as India head of the cash and carry business (an equal joint venture between Bharti and Wal-Mart), while Bharti has gone ahead and named Vinod Sawhney as the CEO of the front-end retail operation.
When contacted by ET, the Wal-Mart spokesperson said it does not comment on speculation or rumour about its recruitment plans. Sources, however, confirmed that those who have joined the retailer include Bharat Hakim, earlier head of supply chain in Whirlpool and now Wal-Marts director (supply chain).
An efficient supply-chain management that can help control costs is absolutely critical for any wholesale business. Mr Hakim is learnt to be scouting for warehousing space for Wal-Marts cash and carry business.
