Supreme Court rejects urgent hearing to petition against Walmart
SC has refused to give an urgent hearing to a petition seeking to draw its attention to allegations of lobbying and corruption against Walmart.
"There's no need for an urgent hearing," Justice RM Lodha told the petitioner, lawyer Manohar Lal Sharma, who filed the petition on Tuesday before the same bench that had earlier questioned the legality of the government's policy decision to allow 100% FDI in single-brand retail without the necessary changes in the FEMA. The government was then forced to make the necessary changes in the FEMA rules and secure the backing of the Parliament. However, when Sharma mentioned his fresh application, Justice Lodha just said, "You file it, we shall see."
