Retailers urge FM Jaitley to simplify cash memo format

The body has written to Jaitley, requesting him to do away with the requirement of mentioning individual item GST details.

NEW DELHI: Retailers Association of India has urged finance minister Arun Jaitley to simplify the format of retail cash memo under GST, saying the current format is too elaborate and “confusing”.

The body has written to Jaitley, requesting him to do away with the requirement of mentioning individual item GST details and harmonised systems codes for all inter-state retail sales for each article sold in every cash bill. “Complying with the requirements of the format are not only increasing the size of the invoice but also be confusing as they have a lot of information which is not relevant to the end customer as they would not be claiming input credit of GST,” Retailers Association of India (RAI) said in its representation.

Instead it has proposed that retailers be allowed to issue cash memo that has details of all articles sold and net price including GST realised for each article.

ET reviewed a copy of RAI’s letter to the finance minister. According to RAI, customers are being subjected to invoices that contain item level taxes in their retail cash memo.
