MANGALORE: As many as 5000 fruit and vegetable vendors will take out a protest march here on august 13 to protest the entry of big names in the retail market in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

Vendors of various markets will shut their shops and go in a procession to the deputy commissioner's office, where they will submit a memorandum, Hameed Kandak, General Secretary of the Central Market Merchants' Association (CMMA) told reporters here on Tuesday.

The entry of these big players will sound the deathblow to small vendors, who have been doing business for several years to earn their livelihood, he said.

The government should not permit these players to enter markets in Karnataka, especially in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, he said.
