LDF govt to take steps to curb big retail chains

Kerala Government will explore possibilities of curbing unrestricted entry of multinationals and national monopolies in the retail sector in the state.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Government will explore possibilities of curbing unrestricted entry of multinationals and national monopolies in the retail sector in the state, Finance Minister T M Thomas Isaac on Monday said
Though the state had limitations in stalling the entry of big retail chains, the government would seek the possibility of bringing them under the state tax net, Isaac said in reply to questions in the state Assembly.
Also, steps to protect the small and medium traders from the impact of the onslaught of big retail chains would be taken. iscussions with traders' associations would be held in this regard, he said.
